It all started back in 2008, to make being apart from each other a little more bearable once we moved away from the adorable apartment building in which we were next-door neighbors: 28 Perry Street in NYC.
On Perry, as a Tuesday ritual, we would walk down to Chinatown, pick out the best looking lobsters and haul them back home, whether by foot or train (I think we spared any poor cab driver from the experience). Hilarity and conversation would ensue as Tom, Jenny's husband got lobster duty as we took on the role of wine-patrol.
And so, when we were leaving this enchanted little ritual of Tuesday nights in lobster-heaven (and cooking in apartment 2R), we decided to find a new way to be together on Tuesdays. By sharing and coexisting with a common theme (even if it's the most mundane) on this day each week, we can still remain connected.
Year One came to a close with a reunion in Paris, and opening of a second year in our Tuesday ritual. We decided to keep the same themes and be able to use these Tuesdays, and the memories associated with them, as a way of keeping track of each other–and of where each of us is in our lives.
Now in Year 4, Tuesdays (and our long-distance friendship) continue to be a favorite of us both.
